About

Jay’s practice is focused on franchising, licensing, distribution, and corporate law. He has experience representing a range of companies including start-ups, cross-border franchise systems expanding into Canada, and licensed cannabis producers. He prepares franchise disclosure documents, franchise agreements, franchise policies and procedures, and all other legal documents related to franchising, licensing, and distribution arrangements. He acts in franchise insolvency matters, franchise terminations, franchise mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate commercial transactions. He also advises on technology contracting and privacy law.

Jay has published on franchise law in the Canadian Business Law Journal. He is a member of the Ontario Bar Association Franchise Law Section and the Ontario Bar Association Privacy and Access to Information Law Section. At law school, Jay was an editor of the Canadian Journal of Law Jurisprudence and a research assistant at the Canada-United States Law Institute. He articled in the public sector and was involved in a number of major public infrastructure procurements. He is a recipient of the Canadian Bar Association Atrium Award in construction and infrastructure law.
