summer-stormYesterday, the Ontario Energy Board amended Ontario’s electricity Distribution System Code, making it easier, faster and simpler for small generation projects to get connected to the grid.

The changes exempt small projects from a long queuing process. Eligible projects are up to 250 kW on power lines less than 15 kV or up to 500 kW on high power lines greater than or equal to 15 kV.

These amendments are part of a broader review currently underway at the OEB to remove barriers to connecting clean renewable generation to the Ontario power grid. It also supports the development of small, local power sources, which will increase Ontario’s resiliency to major storms and other power disruptions.

Much more support for green energy is expected from Ontario’s forthcoming Green Energy Act.
