My Civic Hybrid was delighted to hear that the province is now promising to develop special plates and privileges for fuel efficient cars. Next year, my hybrid should be sporting a new Ontario Eco-licence plate.
According to yesterday’s announcement, the Ontario government will consult with vehicle manufacturers and environmental groups to develop a green vehicle program. Qualifying vehicles bearing the special green plates will be entitled to yet-unidentified privileges such as, perhaps, cheaper parking or use of multi-vehicle lanes. What a great idea! My bicycle is still a quicker way to get around the city, but a car can certainly be handy for longer trips, for lugging stuff and in bad weather. And it’s really hard to transport a kayak on a bicycle…
P.S. media reports suggest that some American states use green licence plates to make convicted criminals conspicuous. Maybe a special colour of green will help…
