On the first anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, lawsuits against BP continue to spread. Individuals and public and private entities at all levels are adding their claims, before today’s deadline. All 15 members of the Plaintiffs Steering Committee are actively inviting clients to join. The wide range of claims is illustrated by the Volusia County School Board, which voted this week to join the lawsuit, even though no oil reached the County. Their claim? That the news about the disaster reduced tourism, which reduced local tax revenues, some of which are used to support the school board.
