Over the past several years, numerous class action lawsuits have been filed across Canada alleging price-fixing in the automobile parts industry. These class actions aim to address unlawful conspiracies that may have inflated the cost of automobile parts, affecting consumers, businesses, and vehicle owners across the country.
The Auto Parts actions are comprised of approximately forty-five (45) class actions that have been commenced regarding alleged price-fixing of automobile parts. The unlawful conspiracies relate to the prices of parts installed by automakers in new vehicles. If you purchased or leased a new vehicle containing the relevant parts, or bought parts for installation in a new vehicle, you could be eligible for compensation.
Auto parts claim submission deadlines
*** THE DEADLINE FOR FILING A CLAIM HAS PASSED ***
You can no longer submit a claim for compensation under the Second Omnibus Distribution. Minor amendments to the Distribution Protocol have been approved by the Ontario and Quebec Courts. Payments to approved class members were issued in late August 2025. Further information can be found at www.autopartsettlement.ca.
Auto parts class action eligibility
The auto parts class actions affect any person in Canada who purchased or leased a new vehicle containing the relevant parts or who purchased the relevant parts for installation in a new vehicle (i.e. automakers).
A description of the relevant automotive parts and the relevant class periods can be found here.
Join the auto parts class actions
Even if you missed the filing deadline for certain auto parts class actions, staying informed about the remaining claims ensures you can take timely action when the third and final claims processes begin. Note that clicking on the “Join” button above is NOT filing a claim. The claims process has not yet commenced for 9 actions. Clicking on the “Join” button above (or filing a claim) will ensure that you are sent updates about these actions.

FAQs
Do I have to pay anything to participate in the auto parts class action?
Class action lawyers are usually paid on a contingency basis. This means that class action legal counsel are only paid if successful. Class counsel are paid a percentage of any settlement or court award. Class counsel fees are subject to court approval.
Who is affected by the auto parts class actions?
You are affected by an auto parts class action if you are a person in Canada who, during the relevant class period:
- purchased or leased a new or used Automotive Vehicle in Canada;
- purchased a new or used Automotive Vehicle for import into Canada; or
- purchased an automotive part in Canada for installation in a new Automotive Vehicle.
A description of the automotive parts and the relevant class periods can be found here.
The courts have approved protocols for the distribution of the settlement funds, including which settlement class members are/were entitled to share in the distribution (see Developments, Distribution).
Can I still join the class action?
There are no steps required to “join” the auto parts class action. Unless you opt-out (exclude yourself) from the class action), assuming you fall within the scope of the class definition, you are automatically included in the class action.
Can I exclude myself from the class action lawsuit?
The period to opt-out of (exclude yourself from) the auto parts class actions has expired.
What should I do to protect my rights?
To protect your rights, you should:
- Keep records of any purchases or leases of new vehicles from 1995 onwards. This period covers the entire duration of all auto parts price-fixing cases. You might be affected by multiple auto parts price-fixing cases;
- Keep records of any purchases of an automotive part for installation in new vehicles during the class period. A description of the automotive parts and the relevant class periods can be found here;
