A thirty-storey crane is working this week, in ferocious weather, to put a new and better bearing on the ExPlace wind turbine, owned by the Windshare community power cooperative and Toronto Hydro. Each of those three blades is the size of the wing of a jumbo jet. Climbing the turbine is an astonishing and heart-pounding experience that I was fortunate to have a few weeks ago.

The turbine performed exceptionally well in 2009 and 2010, with over 94% availability. Thanks to Toronto Hydro and the devoted Windshare volunteers, it is back up and running well. Thanks to Yan Huang for the photo.
