The Ministry of the Environment has reminded Ontario businesses that toxic substance reduction plan summaries under the Toxics Reduction Act, 2009 and its regulation (O. Reg. 455/09) must be filed through Environment Canada’s Single Window (formerly known as the One Window to National Environmental Reporting System – OWNERS). 2012 Plan Summaries are due by December 31, 2013. The Single Window is available to receive plan summaries for substances which were reported for the first time under the Toxics Reduction Program for the 2012 reporting period.

Owners and operators must also make the plan summary available to the public on the Internet, and to keep the complete plan at the facility site.

The Ministry of the Environment has warned reporters that that some changes have been made to the Plan Summary computer module between March 2013 and October 2013. These changes may impact facilities that have already started a 2012 Plan Summary but not yet submitted it.

Facilities that have submitted a plan summary for the 2011 reporting period and have a 2012 plan summary “in progress” will need to select the “Refresh” button on the substance page. This action will remove any substances for which 2011 plan summaries were submitted from the 2012 plan summary substance list. Once you have refreshed your substance list, please proceed to complete the plan summary for 2012.
