It’s great to see that, after years of apparent indifference, Alberta is developing a strong interest in climate change. Water shortages are getting attention. The oil sector has just wrapped up its third international consultation on greening the oil sands. And the University of Calgary expects to launch a national Centre of Excellence on carbon capture and storage, to be called “Carbon Management Canada”. Research theme areas would include: (a) Carbon Capture; (b) Carbon Storage Engineering; (c) Site Characterization, Monitoring and Verification; (d) Carbon- Efficient Fossil Fuel Processing; (d) Technical and Economic Analyses; and (e) Risk Assessment.

Where Alberta goes, the Tory federal government can’t be far behind!
