Intense work is underway preparing for the highly anticipated Blue Box arbitration.

The arbitration will decide the multi-million dollar amount that stewards must pay to municipalities for the 2014 Stewards’ Obligation under s. 25(5) of the Waste Diversion Act, 2002. This is the first year that the issue has gone to arbitration since the WDA was passed, and it affects a very large amount of public money. The hearing is currently scheduled to start in April; a decision is anticipated mid fall.

The final decision will be public. Arbitrator Robert Armstrong has not yet decided how much, if any, of the arbitration and related documents will be available to the public.
