Green Diesel Canada Ltd. processes waste cooking oil, which generates an oil sludge requiring proper disposal. On two occasions, thousands of litres of an oily substance were found in a local ditch, which led to a creek that flows into Lake Ontario. The City of Hamilton cleaned up the mess both times. Both times, company trucks were reported to be in the area.

In January, the company was fined $120,000 (plus $30,000 victim fine surcharge) and the Court issued a restitution order requiring the company to pay the City $25,371.11 for the cleanup costs.
