We are closely watching the growing story about Agent Orange use in Ontario, and the possible toll it may be taking on affected workers. Mutagenic pesticides like Agent Orange can take decades to make people sick. And when a 60 or 70 year old gets cancer, it can be fiendishly hard to know whether that cancer can be traced to that summer job where the pesticides were sprayed. Toxicologists tell me that 1 in 3 of us will get cancer at some point in our lives anyway. No one seems to know how much, if at all, pesticides and other artificial toxins have to do with it. Some researchers, like Devra Lee Davis, are very concerned; many others are unconvinced.
