This month, we had the great privilege of visiting the polar bears north of Churchill, Manitoba, one of the flag species suffering from climate change. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, research has confirmed that the shorter ice season is having a significant impact on these magnificent bears, especially pregnant females and young bears aged four years or less.
While a surprising number of local people denied that the ice has changed over the last 30 years, actual ice dates are available from Environment Canada.
Fortunately, last winter was colder than the previous two, so the bears had more time to hunt before spring melt.
