A Mississauga company was fined $100,000 for discharging metal dust, causing an adverse effect, plus the victim fine surcharges of $25,000.

Magna Powertrain Inc. o/a MPT Precision Technologies operates a manufacturing facility in Mississauga. Responding to a complaint, the ministry attended the site and noted that vehicles were covered in orange metal particulate. Samples were collected and it was discovered that the company’s filtration unit was not functioning properly and was discharging particulate out of its roof stack. Numerous vehicles on site, as well as on adjacent properties, were damaged because of the discharge. This is a breach of the Environmental Protection Act.
