Excavation Company Fined $12,000 For Operating Equipment Without Approval

Kingston – J. Harrison Excavating & Pipeline Ltd. pleaded guilty to one offence and was fined $12,000 for a charge related to the operation of a rock crusher at a site that did not have an Environmental Compliance Approval, contrary to Environmental Protection Act (EPA).

Concrete Company Fined $40,000 For Illegal Waste Activities

Sudbury – Rainbow Concrete Industries Ltd. was fined $40,000 total for one offence of discharging waste water from ready mix cement trucks into a wetland that flows into Junction Creek, which may have impaired the quality of water, contrary to the Ontario Water Resources Act (OWRA).

Ontario First Province in Canada to Set 2030 Greenhouse Gas Pollution Reduction Target

As part of its action against climate change, Ontario has become the first province in Canada to set a mid-term greenhouse gas pollution reduction target for 2030.

Ontario already has a goal to reduce greenhouse gas pollution by 15 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020 and 80 per cent by 2050. In order to help achieve its long-term targets, the province is committing to a new mid-term target to reduce emissions by 37 per cent below 1990 levels by 2030. The province uses 1990 as a baseline year for its targets, which is common in the international community and aligns with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
