The Cancun negotiators declared victory and went home without accomplishing much. I agree with Thomas Friedman: US dependence on Middle Eastern oil is fundamental to its loss of power around the world. It is also a key factor in US’ unwillingness to lead on climate change. And if the world superpower will not lead, and is leaking power everywhere, no wonder the world cannot reach difficult decisions.
