Mr. Lascaris graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 1991. He was admitted to the bar of the State of New York and the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York in 1992, and subsequently became a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Mr. Lascaris became a partner of Siskinds LLP in 2007. Before joining Siskinds, he practiced in the New York City and Paris, France offices of Sullivan & Cromwell. While at Sullivan & Cromwell, he represented the underwriting syndicate in what was, at the time, the largest initial public offering of common stock in United States history. In January 2009, Mr. Lasaris was named by Law Day as one of the 50 best plaintiff's class action lawyers in Canada. Mr. Lascaris's practice is concentrated in the field of securities class actions. He was lead or co-lead counsel in: - FMF Capital Group Securities Litigation (C$29 million settlement and corporate governance reform);
- Southwestern Resources Corp. Securities Litigation (C$15.5 million settlement), the first case settled under Ontario's new investor protection legislation, Part XXIII.1 of the Ontario Securities Act;
- CP Ships Securities Litigation (C$12.8 million settlement);
- Royal Group Technologies Securities Litigation (C$9 million settlement);
- CV Technologies Securities Litigation (C$7.1 million settlement);
- Molson-Coors Securities Litigation (US$6 million settlement);
- Canadian Superior Energy Securities Litigation (C$6 million settlement);
- Research in Motion Stock Options Litigation (C$5 million settlement and corporate governance reform).
Mr. Lascaris was also co-counsel to the Canadian plaintiff in the Biovail Securities Litigation, which was settled in 2008 for US$138 million and extensive corporate governance reform. Mr. Lascaris is currently prosecuting numerous domestic and cross-border securities class actions, including the IMAX Corporation Securities Litigation, which is the first case filed under Part XXIII.1 of the Ontario Securities Act. He also acts for institutional shareholders in numerous derivative proceedings involving allegations of options backdating. Mr. Lascaris speaks English, French and Greek. |
