Your reputation is your brand. Because your reputation rests on the opinions of others, it can be easily compromised whether your image is business-related or personal.

Defamation, be it libel or slander, can undo years of a carefully nurtured identity and must be handled with speed.

In general terms, slander is verbal. Libel tends to be a more permanent form of defamation, usually appearing in writing, and consisting of any communication "without justification or lawful excuse which is calculated to injure the reputation of another by exposing him to hatred, contempt or ridicule."

The Internet has increased opportunities for spreading untruths about organizational or individual reputations. Responding to damaging comments or to claims of defamation requires a solid foundation in this particular area of law along with experience in its application.

In representing clients in claims involving defamation and media law, we have acted for many well-known Ontario-based print and media organizations as well as businesses, including their officers and directors, and individuals who have been hurt by damaging statements.

Joe Gaynor is an awesome lawyer. He ticks all the boxes of what an outstanding lawyer should be. With empathy and compassion he made the decisions that were right for me. Thanks. All the best to you and your team in the future. - D.C.

…I always tell people about Siskinds and what a great team especially Christina Martin were, as well as my adjuster, and rehab team. Couldn’t be where I am today if it was not for you! – R.X.

I want to thank Andrea [Cooley] so much for all her care, concern, work, expertise and wisdom that she gave over the last few months. A separation is something I did not really want to go through, but with Andrea's help I am thankful that I was able to get it all figured out and finished up. I am very happy that it is done, and I can move forward. - L.D.
